World Cancer Day is an initiative of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), born on the 4 February 2000 at the World Summit Against Cancer for the New Millennium in Paris. It is a day to raise awareness of cancer and to encourage its prevention, detection, and treatment. World Cancer Day - Supporting the fighters, celebrating the survivors, honouring the departed is a suitable driving theme towards these goals.
Millions of individuals around the world are affected by the global health problem of cancer. It is a disease that can have a devastating impact on those affected, their families, and communities. The uncontrolled proliferation and spread of aberrant cells characterise this complex and varied category of disorders. Every year on February 4, World Cancer Day is commemorated with the goal of increasing public awareness of cancer, its effects on people and communities, and the steps that must be taken to assure that cancer will no longer be a fatal illness.
The World Cancer Day 2022-2024 theme: “Close the Care Gap” highlights the critical role that support plays in the cancer journey and acknowledges the strength, courage and resilience of cancer fighters, survivors and those who have lost their battle to the disease.
Supporting the fighters!
Cancer is a long and challenging journey that requires immense physical, emotional, and mental strength from those affected. Besides treatment side effects, issues faced by most people diagnosed with cancer includes financial difficulties. Therefore it is clear that they are unable to win the conflict by themselves.
Support is essential for cancer fighters, and it comes in many forms - emotional, practical, and financial. Family, friends, and communities play a crucial role in providing support to those affected by cancer. A cancer diagnosis can be overwhelming and can take a toll on an individual's mental, emotional, and physical well-being. Support from loved ones can provide a source of comfort and hope, helping individuals to feel less isolated and more empowered.
Indeed these cancer fighters main weapon to survive is their will and spirit to overcome the disease and to recover. As a family member, it is crucial to help them maintain this spirit and to never give up.
Celebrating the Survivors!
Cancer survivors are an inspiration to us all. Survivors of cancer are a testament to the power of resilience, courage, and hope. They have overcome significant physical and emotional challenges, and their strength and resilience should be celebrated. Their experiences and journeys can serve as a source of inspiration and hope to others affected by cancer.
One such cancer survivor is Dr. Noordin Darus, who was first diagnosed in 2001 and relapsed 10 years later in 2012. The first time he was diagnosed, he underwent the chemotherapy treatment. It was during this time that he discovered an interesting finding i.e. when he consumed the zam-zam water given to him by his friends, he found that he was more energetic and suffered less pain. This discovery led him to invent the Rx-Water System.
When he was diagnosed the second time, he decided to use the alternative treatment. He changed his diet to have mostly greens, beans and onions as well as water therapy based on Rx-Water. This time he recovered much quicker i.e. in a matter of a few months. Since then Dr Noordin is on DND diet, water therapy and supplements such as Sacha Inchi Oil and recently Moringa.
Honouring the departed!
Finally, we pay tribute to individuals who lost the fight against cancer. Unfortunately, not everyone diagnosed with cancer will survive. They made an effect on the world and will always be remembered for their tenacity and bravery. Honouring the departed is about remembering those who have lost their lives to cancer and paying tribute to their memory. It is also about acknowledging the impact of cancer on families, friends, and communities, and the importance of supporting those who are grieving.
We shall strive for a time where cancer claims much fewer lives and we provide all those affected by the disease with the help they require.
