Eating During Ramadhan!

Eating during Ramadhan? Yes, this post will discuss about the practice of eating good food during the month of Ramadhan in the quest for Power Ramadhan Fasting.

Ramadhan is the month in which the Quran was revealed, and there is a great effort to increase worship as a proof of devotion to the One who revealed the revelation. It turns out that the Quran was not revealed except to teach humans how to worship Him.

Alif Laam Raa, (this is) a book whose verses are neatly arranged and explained in detail, which was sent down from the side of (Allah) the All-Wise and All-Knowing, so that you do not serve other than Allah. Verily I (Muhammad) am a warner and bearer of glad tidings to you from Him,

(Huud, 11: 1-2)

One form of devotion to Him is by obediently eating good food (toyyib).

O you who believe, eat from among the good sustenance that We have given you and give thanks to Allah, if it is really Him that you worship.

(Al-Baqarah, 2: 172)

According to Raghib Al-Asfahani in his Quran dictionary "Al-Mufradat", the original meaning of At-toyyib is something that can make the body feel good and can give pleasure to the soul. Good food is food that is pure, can be taken in suitable quantities, and obtained from permissible sources.

In summary, good food can be seen in terms of quantity and quality. Quantity refers to the amount of intake taken, while quality is related to the content of the substance in the food.

How can we make our diet in Ramadhan an act of worship by obeying His command to choose good food?

Water

To fast, the water content in the body plays an important role in enabling the metabolism system to function properly. Although plain water contains no calories, its function is essential in ensuring the generation of energy in each cell.

In addition to metabolic functions, water also plays an important role in the blood transport system that ensures that every cell gets enough oxygen supply. If there is a lack of water, a person can easily feel tired and drowsy.

Vegetables and fruits

Minerals and vitamins are needed for many organ functions. For example, if the body lacks minerals, the bones and teeth will be affected. Vitamins are necessary for body metabolism and the immune system. Both mineral and vitamin components can be obtained through vegetables and fruits.

Tips for obtaining a variety of substances are by varying the types of vegetables and fruits consumed every day. Eat different vegetables and fruits every day with a variety of colors.

Meat and Eggs

Allah has given us meat from many sources. In general, there is meat from sea and land sources. Fish, chicken, beef, and others provide different colors. This color diversity represents the different substances in the meat that provide various nutrients to the body. Basically, this type of food group provides sufficient protein.

Meat and Eggs

A tip to get various nutrients from meat sources is to vary the types. For example, eat fish twice a week, chicken three times a week, and beef once a week. Eggs can also be included in the daily menu list as a good source of protein.

Diet during Ramadhan

During Ramadhan, meal times are during sahur (pre-dawn meal) and iftar (breaking of fast). Basically, the food consumed during these two times is similar to lunch or dinner. For example, a quarter portion of rice, a quarter portion of meat, and half portion of vegetables and fruits.

Make sure to have enough variety of foods from vegetables, fruits, and meat. In addition, throughout the night, ensure enough intake of plain water by targeting at least 8 glasses at night. To avoid dehydration, it is best to avoid taking coffee and tea as both have diuretic effects, which cause water to be expelled from the body. This can be risky during the fasting month.

Eating to be faithful and grateful

If you notice, diet tips are similar to what we commonly hear in the media. In fact, healthy eating habits have been widely known. However, putting it into practice is not easy as cravings often overwhelm us.

Therefore, would you like to take the opportunity of Ramadhan to change your eating habits? Make eating a form of worship that nurtures a sense of piety towards God.
